A group of friends and I once pondered on the question, “could you ever live your life normally now if the internet was never invented?”. Most of us just laughed at our friend who asked that question. He was heavily into his online games and social networks. Needless to say, none of us even came close to this guys apparent addiction to his PC. But then again, we all stopped and answered him anyway. “No” we said. First it was all joking around, then came the practical uses for the internet, then came the serious talk about how important it was and all the talk about how this was the age of information and how progress for the industry wouldn’t have been this good if it wasn’t for the said invention.

I do have to admit that I laughed in the beginning of the conversation too. It was a silly question and I’m sure the guy only asked that question because he was so enamored with his iPad and how he has on his Facebook the entire time. But he did strike a chord. Where WOULD we be without the internet? People have been taking it for granted and not even thinking about what would happen if for some reason we lost it all of a sudden. To me, that’s the greatest invention of all time. And if lost, the greatest setback of this century.
